My Take
Shane "Sugar" Mosley is one of those fighters who makes you appreciate just how much craft goes into boxing at the highest level. Growing up in Lynwood, California, he turned pro in 1993 and spent the next two decades proving he belonged in conversations with the all-time greats — IBF lightweight champion, then WBA and WBC welterweight titles, then the light middleweight crowns on top of that. Three weight classes, multiple belts. That's not luck, that's sustained excellence. Winning the Sugar Ray Robinson Award in 1998 — named for arguably the greatest pound-for-pound boxer ever — tells you everything about the kind of fighter he was: technically brilliant, not just powerful. The International Boxing Hall of Fame induction in 2020 was long overdue recognition. I'll always have a soft spot for fighters whose résumé speaks louder than any hype machine ever could.
