Shavo Odadjian

Shavo Odadjian is the kind of musician I find quietly essential. As the bassist of System of a Down, he anchors a band whose chaos only works because someone is holding the floor steady underneath the screaming guitars and vocals. But he refuses to stay boxed in, playing guitar, composing, DJing, and turning up in a trap outfit like North Kingsley. There's an Armenian pride threaded through his work that gives it weight beyond technique. I respect artists who power a sound from the engine room rather than the spotlight, and who keep stretching into new genres well into their career.
