My Take
Shin Won-ho is one of the K-drama directors whose name actually makes me hit play sight unseen. The Reply trilogy, 1997, 1994, and especially 1988, is comfort television of the highest order, nostalgic, warm, and quietly devastating in the way it writes family and friendship. Then he pivoted to Prison Playbook and the wonderful Hospital Playlist, proving that signature ensemble warmth travels anywhere. A Seoul National University graduate who moved to CJ E&M and built a whole tonal universe, he is a master of the slow-burn human drama. When his name is on a project, I trust it completely.
