Nao Tōyama

I'll be honest, Nao Tōyama has one of those voices I can pick out of a lineup in half a second, this clear, slightly weightless tone that just reads as "her." What I love is the range underneath it: she can play the sweet, gentle types and then flip into something sharper without it ever sounding like she's straining, and that kind of flexibility is harder than she makes it look. Then she goes and sings too and runs around a stage live, which makes me wonder when she sleeps. The Waseda brain is in there somewhere, but she wears it lightly, and that easy, sunny vibe is a big part of why people root for her. Those two 2019 Seiyu Awards tell me the industry trusts her, and honestly, so do I.
