Shun'ichi Mizuoka

He graduated from Nara University of Education, and I find that detail more telling than it first appears. A background rooted in education tends to shape how a politician frames problems, even decades later. Shunichi Mizuoka was born in 1956 in Takeno, a town on the Sea of Japan side of Hyogo Prefecture, and went to Toyooka High School before university. That is not a metropolitan launchpad, and coming from a smaller coastal community usually leaves a mark on which issues a legislator treats as urgent. He sits in the House of Councillors for the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, now in his fourth term, and in January 2026 he became the party's leader. National politics looks glamorous from outside, but the substance of it is committee sessions, drafting, and endless returns to the home district. Most of that work is invisible, which is precisely why the people who do it steadily deserve to be recorded somewhere.
