My Take

Sid Wilson is genuinely one of the most underrated figures in heavy music — the guy is literally listed as member #0 in Slipknot, which already tells you everything about how he sees himself in relation to the band. Born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1977, he's been the masked turntablist throwing himself around the stage since the late '90s, and that physicality is so wild for a DJ — most people in his role stand behind a table, but Sid is out there crowd-surfing and flipping off equipment. What I love is that he bridges two worlds most people think are incompatible: the raw chaos of nu-metal and the craft of turntablism. He's not decoration; those scratches and samples are baked into the Slipknot sound. Nearly three decades in and still going — respect.
