Simone Simons

Simone Simons is one of those voices that stops me in my tracks. Joining the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica at just seventeen, she has carried nine studio albums and endless world tours, and collaborated with Kamelot, Ayreon and others along the way. What impresses me most is not only the soaring soprano riding over those walls of orchestra and guitar, but the discipline of protecting that instrument across two decades on the front line. I find sustained vocal craft far more admirable than raw flash, and Simons embodies it. She feels like an artist who has grown deeper with each record rather than merely louder.
