My Take
I always picture Skylar Astin as Jesse from Pitch Perfect, all cocky charm and easy grin, but what interests me is the trained craftsman underneath. He originated Georg in Broadway's Spring Awakening before Hollywood, so the singing and timing aren't tricks, they're foundations laid on a Tisch stage and tested nightly in front of live audiences. I have a soft spot for performers who hide serious chops behind effortless comedy, and he does it consistently. That blend of theater discipline and screen lightness is rare, and it makes me confident he's an actor worth watching for the long haul.
