My Take
Sophie Okonedo strikes me as one of the most quietly formidable actresses Britain has produced. An Oscar nomination for Hotel Rwanda, a Tony win, plus Olivier, BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, that breadth across film, television and stage is the mark of a complete artist. Honoured as both an Officer and Commander of the Order of the British Empire, she clearly commands enormous respect. Yet she keeps her work centred on the craft rather than celebrity. She also narrates, and you sense she can build a whole world with voice alone. To me she proves acting is equal parts technique and conviction.
