My Take
I think the most underrated thing about Steve Jobs is that he was, at heart, an editor. Anyone can add features; he removed them until what remained felt inevitable, and the Apple II, the iMac, and the iPod each redefined a category by subtraction. He was famously difficult, and I do not romanticize that, but his insistence that technology should answer to design and human feeling rather than the other way around changed how I judge every product I touch. The Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded more than a decade after his death only confirmed what the devices had already proved: his taste outlived him.
