My Take
Steve Nash is my favorite kind of great athlete: the one who wins with his mind. In a league built on overwhelming physical gifts, a slender point guard from Johannesburg by way of Canada took home back-to-back MVP awards by seeing passing angles nobody else could imagine. Those Phoenix Suns teams changed how basketball is played, and today's pace-and-space NBA owes him a real debt. I also rate him highly as a person, since the Kennedy Citizenship Award was no accident, and his second act as a coach, producer, and businessman shows the same curiosity that made him special. He is proof that intelligence and unselfishness can be a superpower.
