My Take

Steven Schneider is one of those names that horror fans absolutely should know but often don't, and that anonymity is basically a badge of honor in this business. A New York kid turned genre evangelist, he went from writing sharp film criticism to actually producing the films he cared about — which is a genuinely rare arc. His work with Roy Lee at Spooky Pictures helped shape the wave of elevated and international horror that flooded into American multiplexes in the 2000s and 2010s. What I find genuinely impressive is that he didn't just chase what was selling; he had a scholarly passion for the genre that informed his taste. Not every producer can say their career grew out of real intellectual love for the material.
