My Take
Susanna Hoffs has always struck me as far more than the face of a hit-making band. A Berkeley-educated Angeleno, she co-founded the Bangles and steered an all-women group through the eighties, a feat that demanded grit as much as talent. I respect that their debut flopped commercially yet they pushed on to multi-platinum success, a reminder that persistence often outlasts early disappointment. Singer, guitarist, songwriter and occasional actress, she refused a single lane. The fact that she keeps recording into her sixties tells me the music was never a phase but a calling. I genuinely admire artists who build their own house rather than borrow someone else's.
