My Take
I respect Sylvester Turner for the long, self-made arc of his life: from a poor Houston household to attorney, to a decades-long Texas legislator, to mayor from 2016 to 2024, and finally a U.S. Representative just as he passed in 2025. He ran the public-service race to the very end. His path from Klein High School to the University of Houston, rooted entirely in his hometown, is exactly the kind of story I admire. He was a politician of substance over spectacle, planted firmly in his community. His loss is real, but the name of a man who worked so hard for ordinary people deserves to be remembered.
