My Take

I think of Taiwo Awoniyi as the classic late-blooming striker. Born in Ilorin in 1997, he spent years on loan all over Europe before finally getting a permanent home, and that long apprenticeship shows in his game. At 183 cm he's not a towering target man, but he plays with the kind of physical bravery that makes Premier League defenders uncomfortable. What strikes me most is the patience the journey demanded. When I watch him lead the line for Nottingham Forest and Nigeria, I see a player who earned every minute the hard way, and that backstory makes me root for him.
