Takara Sakumoto

I'll admit Takara Sakumoto isn't a household name to me yet, and that's exactly why I find him interesting. Born in 1998, he's part of that crop of Japanese actors quietly building a film resume in their twenties rather than chasing the idol fast lane, and there's something I really respect about that slow-burn route. He was discovered on a youth stage in Okinawa and won a Japan Academy newcomer prize with his very first film, Rage, and an actor who starts that way usually trusts the work to do the talking. I get the sense of a guy with a banked, simmering intensity, the kind that detonates in the right close-up. Honestly, I love catching performers at this stage, before the world decides who they are. I'm planted firmly on the bandwagon early.
