My Take
I'll be honest, the players who grab me aren't always the flashy goal-scorers but the ones who do the quiet, unglamorous work, and Tatsuya Masushima reads like exactly that kind of guy to me. A Chiba kid who came up through Ichifuna, that Funabashi soccer factory that grinds out tough, disciplined players, so I picture him as someone forged in a no-excuses environment. At 180cm there's a sturdiness to him, the type who plants himself on the pitch and just refuses to be moved. What I respect most, though, is that he didn't vanish when his playing days wound down, he flipped to coaching and started passing it all forward to younger players. That second-act move always wins me over. Steady, earnest, building rather than showboating, that's a career arc I quietly root for.
