My Take

Ted Strickland interests me as a politician who started in the classroom. An Asbury University man who taught before entering public life, he served Ohio in Congress and then as its 68th governor from 2007 to 2011, and as of 2026 he remains the last Democrat to hold that office in an increasingly red state. Winning statewide in tough terrain takes real connection with voters, and I suspect his background in education gave him a habit of listening rather than lecturing. I tend to trust politicians who come from outside the usual machine. Strickland reads to me as a principled, unflashy operator, and I respect that.
