My Take

Tom De Sutter is the kind of footballer I have a soft spot for, a towering 192cm Belgian forward whose job was the loneliest in the game: score, or be blamed. Belgium punches well above its weight in European football, and being a journeyman striker in that talent-rich system is no small thing. The records that reach me are sparse, but I picture a target man who held the line, shielded the ball and gave teammates something to play off. That unglamorous, physical brand of centre-forward rarely makes highlight reels, yet it wins matches, and I respect the players who do that thankless work.
