My Take
Tommy Wiseau fascinates me more than most acclaimed auteurs ever could. He wrote, financed, directed, and starred in a film widely branded one of the worst ever made, and instead of vanishing in shame he wore that label like a crown until it became a global cult phenomenon. There is something genuinely heroic in that refusal to be defeated. His murky origins and unplaceable accent only deepen the mystique. What I take from him is that sincerity, even when it misses wildly, can outlast a thousand competent forgettable films. He failed upward into immortality, and I cannot help but respect it.
