Toshiki Abe

Toshiki Abe is not the name that comes up when people talk about baseball out of Iwate Prefecture. That conversation tends to start with Shohei Ohtani and Yusei Kikuchi and stop there. Abe came out of Ichinoseki in the same prefecture and built a completely different kind of career: an infielder, 185 cm, who has worn both the Chunichi Dragons and the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles uniforms in Nippon Professional Baseball. Back with Chunichi in 2026 after three seasons in Sendai, he has become the club's go-to pinch hitter, nicknamed the god of pinch-hitting. Some players build a public self alongside the job. He seems to have decided the at-bats and the innings in the field would speak for him, and every clubhouse needs someone content to be measured only by the work.
