Trevante Rhodes is genuinely one of the most exciting actors to break through in the 2010s, and his performance as adult Chiron in Moonlight (2016) is about as close to perfect as it gets — quiet, coiled, devastating. What makes it even more remarkable is that before acting, this guy was a sprinter at the University of Texas at Austin, so there's this whole other athleticism to how he carries himself on screen. He followed Moonlight with Bird Box opposite Sandra Bullock and The Predator, which showed he could handle big studio fare too. The United States vs. Billie Holiday in 2021 proved his range again. I just wish we got more of him more often — he's the kind of talent who elevates every frame he's in, and Hollywood hasn't fully figured out what to do with him yet.
