My Take
What fascinates me about Trey Gowdy is the through-line of his career: whether as a federal prosecutor, a congressman grilling witnesses in committee hearings, or a television presenter, his real instrument has always been cross-examination. I find his 2019 exit from Congress telling — plenty of politicians cling to power, but he walked away and returned to what he does best, arguing in front of an audience. You don't have to share his politics to appreciate the craft: the courtroom timing, the pointed questions, the Southern delivery. He strikes me as a litigator who never stopped litigating, just kept changing the courtroom.
