My Take

Urs Buhler is the Swiss tenor in Il Divo, the classical crossover group that moved over thirty million records, and I think his classical training is exactly what kept that project from feeling like a gimmick. It's easy to be cynical about crossover acts engineered for the charts, but a properly trained voice grounds the whole thing. What I appreciate is that he came up as a genuine opera singer, also a pianist and guitarist, before the pop-classical fame. To me that background is the difference between selling records and actually singing.
