Valentina Lisitsa

Valentina Lisitsa fascinates me for her nerve. Rather than wait for a tour promoter or label, she launched herself by posting performances on YouTube, and by 2012 she was among the most-watched pianists on the platform. In a world as tradition-bound as classical music, she was an early adopter of the internet as a genuine weapon, building an audience entirely on her own terms. The fact that she also works as a film director only deepens my interest. I am consistently drawn to artists who refuse the established path and carve out their own, and she did exactly that.
