My Take

Konoplyanka is one of those wingers I genuinely enjoyed watching. His Dnipro years stick with me: 211 appearances, 45 goals, and a driving role in their run to the 2015 Europa League final. At 176 cm he was never the most imposing figure, but the way he cut inside off the left and carried the ball had real momentum to it. For a long stretch he was simply the face of the Ukrainian national side. Watching him keep representing his country through difficult times added a layer of meaning. He is retired now, but that slicing left foot left an afterimage that lingers.
