My Take
Vincent Gallo is the rare polymath who refuses to be filed under any single label. Guitarist, singer, director, actor, painter, writer, and a collaborator of Jean-Michel Basquiat, he has built a career on uncompromising, sometimes confrontational artistry. His Volpi Cup win confirms the talent, yet what fascinates me most is his utter indifference to consensus. Gallo divides opinion fiercely, and I think that is precisely the point. He makes work that demands a reaction rather than approval. For me he stands as a reminder that true authorship often comes packaged in difficulty, prickliness, and a stubborn refusal to please.
