Wilson Cruz

What strikes me about Wilson Cruz is how seamlessly his craft and his courage have always traveled together. Rickie Vasquez on My So-Called Life was groundbreaking, and decades later Dr. Hugh Culber on Star Trek: Discovery let him put queer love at the center of an optimistic future. As an openly gay actor of Afro-Puerto Rican heritage, he carried real personal risk into roles that gave countless young people a mirror. I admire performers who turn visibility into generosity, and Cruz, with quiet conviction, has done exactly that for an entire generation.
