Yael Stone

What draws me to Yael Stone is the theatre-forged craft underneath the fame. Long before global audiences met her as Lorna Morello in Orange Is the New Black, she had earned two Sydney Theatre Awards grinding away on Australian stages. That grounding shows: Lorna could have been a cartoon, but Stone gave her a fragile, aching humanity that lingers. I trust performers built this way, the ones who pay their dues live before the camera finds them, far more than overnight names. She strikes me as someone whose best work may still be quietly ahead, and I'll keep watching for it.
