My Take

Yahya Golmohammadi carries one of those statistics I cannot stop admiring: the oldest man to score on his first World Cup start, netting for Iran against Mexico in 2006, and one of only eleven Iranians ever to score at a World Cup. To do that as a centre-back, on the biggest stage, late in your career, takes nerve most players never develop. What I find even more compelling is his second act as a coach. Defenders who turn to teaching tend to build disciplined, resilient sides, and a man who delivered under that kind of pressure clearly has wisdom worth passing on.
