Yūji Tanaka

Yuji Tanaka has the harder job in Bakusho Mondai, and hardly anyone says so. His partner Hikari Ota talks recklessly and brilliantly; Tanaka is the one converting that into comedy, capping it when it turns dangerous, steering so the audience never gets left behind. Born in Nakano, Tokyo in 1965, he has held that position for more than three decades, which strikes me as a question of nerve rather than stamina. It also explains why voice work suits him so well, Mike in the Japanese dub of Monsters, Inc. among others, because his voice alone softens a room. When he returned from serious illness, the relief was general, and it was earned.
