Yūmi Nagashima

Morning television is one of the least glamorous and most punishing jobs in broadcasting, and I don't think viewers ever really account for that. Yūmi Nagashima was born in Kobe in 1991, studied at Kwansei Gakuin University, and joined Fuji TV as an announcer before becoming the main presenter of Mezamashi TV, the network's flagship morning program. Handing someone that chair means the network trusts her to hold the whole thing together at dawn, five days a week, for years on end. She has since left Fuji TV, and I suspect the gap that leaves is larger than it looks from the outside. She was never the sort of presenter who trends because of one outrageous moment; she was the sort who turns up and delivers the same steady quality every single morning. Honestly, that is the harder skill, and it almost never gets credited as one.
