Yumiko Fukushima

Born in Matsue, Shimane in 1965 and educated at Keio, she worked as a TBS announcer from 1989 to 1999 and is now chief financial officer of her husband's company. Her low profile reads less as missing information than as a decision. Yumiko Fukushima became globally known as the wife of Ichiro Suzuki, one of the most scrutinized athletes of his era, and then spent decades saying almost nothing. A woman whose profession was talking chose, deliberately, to stop being the one talking. In a culture where visibility is treated as value, that is not shyness, it is discipline, and it worked. I would like to be that good at being quiet.
