Zara Larsson

Zara Larsson won a national talent show at ten and somehow avoided every child-star pitfall, which says as much about her character as her voice. That voice is genuinely elite—powerful, precise, effortlessly modern—but what keeps me interested is her outspokenness; she says what she thinks about the industry and society and accepts the friction that follows. Sweden has an uncanny pipeline of pop excellence, and Larsson feels like its most confident recent export. She is still young enough that her best and most personal record may be ahead of her, and I would happily bet on her delivering it.
