My Take

2 Pistols, born Jeremy Lemont Saunders in Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1983, is the kind of one-hit story I find oddly compelling. His indie single Dirty Foot caught fire locally, landed him a Universal Republic deal in 2007, and She Got It with T-Pain reached number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. The rougher edges in his record, including a drug-trafficking past, only make the arc more human to me. I do not romanticize the trouble, but I respect the raw conviction it takes to turn a hard life into something people actually want to hear.
