Algee Smith

Algee Smith feels like an actor still climbing toward his ceiling, and I'm here for the ascent. Born in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1994, he broke through as Ralph Tresvant in BET's The New Edition Story, then earned real critical respect as Larry Reed in Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit, a performance of raw, frightened intensity I haven't forgotten. His turn as Chris McKay in Euphoria kept him visible, and the fact that he sings as well as acts gives him a versatility that should serve a long career. To me he's one of the more promising young talents worth watching closely.
