Alireza Firouzja

Alireza Firouzja feels to me like a glimpse of where chess is heading. Iranian champion at twelve, grandmaster at fourteen, and the youngest player ever to break a 2800 FIDE rating, beating Magnus Carlsen's record by more than five months, he is not merely talented but historically precocious. What fascinates me is the sense of a generational shift happening on the board in real time. His move from Iran to France to keep competing also speaks to a resolve that goes beyond raw genius. Over the next decade I genuinely want to watch this young man make his run at the very top, and I expect it to be thrilling.
