My Take

Andrew Garfield fascinates me because he keeps winning at games most actors will not even play simultaneously: a Tony on stage, a BAFTA on television, a Golden Globe on film. That spread tells me his loyalty is to material, not to brand-building. What I admire most is his refusal to armor himself — he cries in interviews, speaks openly about grief, and brings that openness into roles whether the project is a blockbuster or a small musical. Plenty of actors are skilled; far fewer are this emotionally available without it curdling into shtick. I suspect his best work is still ahead, and I look forward to watching it arrive.
