Anthony Callea

Anthony Callea is, to me, a reminder that the runner-up sometimes wins the bigger prize. Coming second on Australian Idol in 2004, he then released a cover of "The Prayer" that became the fastest-selling single by an Australian artist and held number one for five weeks. That is not a consolation career; that is an audience overruling a competition. What I admire is the voice itself, that powerful, trained voice that gives the song its lift. He turned a near-miss into genuine stardom on the strength of pure talent, and I have real respect for anyone who rewrites their own verdict like that.
