Atsushi Kita

Atsushi Kita is one of those players whose path is the personality. Born in Komatsu, Ishikawa — deep in Hokuriku country where winters are brutal and people tend to be quietly tough — he was a 183cm high school ace who also hit 32 homers, went in the first round to Yokohama as a pitcher, then remade himself as a hitter and kept going with Nippon-Ham and the Giants. Something about a guy who keeps his head down, comes from that quiet corner of Japan, and just keeps adapting — I find that grounded, let-the-work-speak energy refreshing. That's a kind of charisma too.
