My Take

I have a soft spot for right backs like Avdija Vršajević, the unglamorous engines of a side. A Bosnian full back from Tešanj standing 179 cm, he belongs to that breed who run the whole flank for ninety minutes so the strikers can shine. In a country where football is bound up with national pride, climbing to that level demands real grit. Now retired, he spent a career mastering a thankless position, and I find quiet dignity in that. The men who never chase the spotlight are usually the spine of the team, and I suspect he was exactly that.
