Avi Kaplan

Avi Kaplan owns one of my favourite voices in modern music. As Pentatonix's vocal bass he anchored a group that won three Grammys and sold over six million albums, and anyone who has heard that subterranean low end knows how much it held the whole sound together. What moves me more is his pivot in 2017 to a solo path as Avriel and the Sequoias, trading polished a cappella for something earthier and more personal. That choice reads as an artist returning to his own roots. His deep, forest-quiet tone is the kind I could listen to endlessly.
