My Take

I'll be honest, Ayane Sakura is one of those voice actors whose name in the cast list makes me relax a little, like, okay, this'll be good. What gets me is the range: she can do the sharp, prickly type one minute and a soft, airheaded sweetheart the next, and I never catch the seam between them. The fact that she took home both Best Supporting Actress and Best Personality at the 2018 Seiyu Awards feels exactly right to me, because it says out loud what fans already knew, that she's a killer on the mic and a genuine delight just talking on radio and variety stuff. There's something disarming about someone who can be a totally different person behind the glass but comes off so warm and easygoing when she's just being herself. Quietly one of my favorites.
