Ayelet Zurer

Ayelet Zurer is the kind of actress whose foundation I deeply respect. Tel Aviv-born, she came up through Israeli teen drama and won Best Actress at the Ophir Awards in 2003 before the wider world came calling. I admire that order of things: earn your standing at home, then expand outward. She didn't ride a wave to easy fame but built genuine credibility across stage, modeling and film. There's an intelligence behind her composed, poised presence that I notice every time she's on screen. To me she embodies the real thing, an actress whose recognition was earned rather than handed to her.
