Baroness Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza

Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza fascinates me because she could have coasted on the name. Born into one of Europe's great collecting dynasties and once married into the House of Habsburg, she had every excuse to simply inherit. Instead she trained at Saint Martins and built a working life as a curator and patron of contemporary art. I respect collectors who actually commit a point of view rather than treating art as decoration. Carrying that much family history while forging an independent voice in today's art world is no small feat, and her seriousness about living artists earns my genuine regard.
