My Take

Boosie Badazz carries Baton Rouge in his voice, and that authenticity is exactly why he matters to me. Starting in the 1990s with the Southern collective Concentration Camp before going solo in 2000 with Youngest of da Camp, he built his name the hard way, from the ground up in Louisiana's rap scene. He has lived a turbulent, fully public life, and that lived-in weight gives his records a rawness you cannot fake. He is more than a rapper too, moving into singing and acting. What I respect is the consistency of voice; whatever the medium, the man never softens his point of view.
