My Take

Brian J. Smith first caught my attention in Stargate Universe as Lieutenant Matthew Scott, but it's Sense8 that made me really pay attention. His Will Gorski had a steady, grounded warmth that helped hold that sprawling, emotional Netflix ensemble together. Born in Dallas in 1981, he's a stage actor at heart too, and his Tony-nominated turn as the Gentleman Caller in the 2013 Broadway revival of The Glass Menagerie tells me the screen roles are only part of the story. I respect performers who move easily between theater and television like this; it usually means the craft runs deeper than the fame.
