My Take

I have a soft spot for the villains of professional wrestling, and "Playboy" Buddy Rose, born Paul Perschmann in Omaha, was a craftsman of that art. Working the AWA, WWF, and Pacific Northwest territories, he understood that being hated by the crowd takes more presence and skill than being cheered. A great heel sells the whole story, and I suspect he was sharp on the microphone too. He passed in 2009, but characters like his are exactly why the business stays compelling. He may be a footnote to casual fans, but to me he is the kind of dependable performer the show needs.
