My Take
Calvin Grove is the kind of fighter I find myself rooting for in retrospect. Featherweight is boxing at its most frantic, all hand speed and volume, and to climb to the very top of that division as IBF world champion takes craft, not just power. Coming out of Coatesville, a Pennsylvania steel town, gives his ascent a blue-collar weight I appreciate. Champions from that era rarely get the modern spotlight, but the belt does not lie. I respect fighters who win through technique and stamina rather than a single highlight-reel punch, and Grove clearly belonged among the elite of his weight class.
