My Take

My take on Cameron Monaghan is that he is a genuine chameleon. As Ian Gallagher on Shameless he delivered years of grounded, tender work, then turned around and played twin proto-Jokers on Gotham with unsettling, gleeful menace. Watching those two performances side by side, it is hard to believe they come from the same actor. Having started young, he carries none of the laziness that sometimes creeps into child stars who coast. The BAFTA recognition feels earned. I trust performers who chase the truth of a role rather than the spotlight, and Monaghan strikes me as exactly that kind of craftsman.
